CORRUPTION HOTLINE AND E-MAIL ADDRESS for COLORADO and WYOMING Recent media attention given to public corruption investigations across the country has given rise to several questions such as: How does this affect me as a citizen? What is public corruption and how would I know? If I have information, what should I do? Corruption erodes the public confidence in governmental operations and ultimately undermines the strength of our democracy. While the vast majority of public officials – elected or appointed – are honest and committed public servants, there are examples of investigations and prosecutions across the country involving public officials who abused their position and the public trust. A public corruption matter involves any public official (i.e., either elected, appointed, or under contract), and/or a private individual, who has, or is, engaging in a corrupt scheme that involves a direct or indirect abuse of the public official’s trust, and/or undermines the integrity of federal, state or local governmental operations in violation of federal law. For more information on the FBI and Public Corruption investigations, please visit our website at www.fbi.gov. The FBI has taken a proactive stance to combat corruption and ensure that criminals are brought to justice. Effective immediately, the FBI in Colorado and Wyoming established an information tip “hotline” to empower and encourage the public to report information about public corruption. Concerned citizens seeking to report corruption information directly to the Denver FBI office may call (888) 232-3270 or e-mail their complaints to dn_public_corruption@ic.fbi.gov . Special Agent in Charge James H. Davis stated, “Public Corruption investigations are among the highest priorities for the FBI. Those officials in any level of government who wish to abuse their position of trust should be held accountable. The FBI in Colorado and Wyoming are committed to dedicating the necessary resources to the identification and elimination of corruption. All complaints will be carefully examined.” SA Kathy Wright |
