The Denver Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) presented Mr. Marcus Thomas of the Denver Broncos with a FBI Director’s Award for Exceptional Service in the Public Interest. Mr. Thomas is being recognized for partnering with the American Football Coaches Association AFCA/FBI National ID Program to provide 56,000 Child ID Kits to all kindergarten students in the State of Colorado. Special Agent in Charge James H. Davis presented the award at the Colorado State Capital along with Governor Bill Ritter, Jr. on Monday, December 8, 2008. SAC Davis stated, “This initiative strengthens the commitment to protecting youth in Colorado.” "Marcus' decision to help fund this program comes at a crucial time. All across the state and country people are feeling the pinch of our current economic crisis—leaving programs that rely on funding to suffer,” said Governor Ritter. “Through his help, literally thousands of Colorado children will be safer, while their parents will have the extra sense of security that every parent desires." The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) created the National Child Identification Program (NCIDP) in 1997. In December 2001, the Federal Bureau of Investigation joined in partnership with the AFCA making it the only program of its kind to gain the backing of the FBI. Dave Joly
