AMBER
ALERT RESOLUTION - BAUGHER CHILDREN SAFE
Laura
Laughlin, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Seattle Division of the FBI,
today announced the safe recovery of two-year-old Lars Baugher and his
sister, four-year-old Remi Baugher, and the arrest of their father,
34 year-old John Baugher.
On March 25th 2007, an Amber Alert was broadcast seeking information
to help locate Lars and Remi Baugher, who did not return from a court-authorized
visit with their father.
Investigation over the last five days tracked the movements of the father
and children from the state of Washington into Montana and Utah where,
on March 29th 2007, the three boarded a Greyhound Bus in Salt Lake City
en route to Hartford, Connecticut via Denver, Colorado. While in transit,
the bus developed mechanical problems and pulled to the side of the
road approximately 35 miles outside of Denver. While awaiting repair,
area law enforcement officials boarded the bus and took John Buagher
into custody without incident. He is awaiting return to Washington pursuant
to a warrant issued in the State of Washington for felonious custodial
interference. The children are now in the care of the FBI and will be
reunited with their mother later today.
This incredibly successful outcome is the result of a massive law enforcement
effort involving a coordinated response across many states and with
numerous law enforcement agencies. Seattle FBI would like to thank all
law enforcement agencies who participated, with special thanks to: the
FBI in Montana, Utah, and Colorado; Walla Walla Police Department; Stevens
County Sheriff's Office; Washington State Patrol; United States Border
Patrol; Bureau of Indian Affairs; Idaho Springs Police Department (Colorado);
Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office (Colorado); and others too numerous
to name. Investigation continues.
