JUDE DURAN INDICTED BY FEDERAL GRAND JURY FOR MONTROSE BANK ROBBERY

DENVER – A federal grand jury in Denver late yesterday returned a one count indictment charging Jude A. Duran, age 29, of Flora Vista, New Mexico, with bank robbery, United States Attorney Troy Eid and Federal Bureau of Investigation Special Agent in Charge in Denver James Davis announced.  Duran was arrested without incident this afternoon by the FBI.  He is scheduled to make his initial appearance tomorrow afternoon in Grand Junction, where he’ll be advised of the charges pending against him.

According to the indictment, on May 13, 2008, Duran allegedly robbed the Vectra Bank branch in Montrose.  If convicted, the defendant faces up to 20 years in federal prison, and a fine of not more than $250,000, plus restitution.

“If you rob a bank in Colorado, regardless of whether it is in a large city or a smaller community, you’ll be held responsible,” said U.S. Attorney Troy Eid.
“The defendant was caught thanks to the hard work of local law enforcement in Montrose, in cooperation with Western Slope FBI Special Agents,” said FBI Special Agent in Charge James Davis.

This case was investigated by the FBI, with substantial assistance from the Montrose Police Department and the Montrose Sheriff’s Office.

Duran is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Wyatt Angelo.

These charges are only allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
