Community Outreach Program

In 1988, the FBI began its drug awareness program which has now expanded to include crime, drugs, gangs, and violence, along with the federally mandated Victim/Witness Assistance Program. The mission of the Community Outreach Program is to provide a comprehensive effort that deals with multiple interrelated societal problems, including crime, drugs, gangs, and violence, in support of our investigative goal.

Recognizing the interdependency of children, parents, other adults, community groups, businesses, schools, social services and health services, the FBI focuses its community outreach efforts on three areas: the community, the schools, and the workplace.

Community-based efforts include forming partnerships with local groups, helping with established programs like childfinders.org, addressing community meetings, and working within existing community networks. Annually, the Denver Division presents the Special Agent in Charge's Community Service Awards, and the FBI Director's Leadership Award, which recognize citizens actively involved in improving their communities.

School-based programs include our Adopt-A-School/Junior Special Agent Program. This year-long program takes students through modified FBI Agent training, focusing on improved academic development and citizenship. Other efforts involve FBI personnel as guest speakers or lecturers in the school systems.

The workplace-based endeavors include helping local businesses establish crime, drug and violence prevention polices, educating corporations about the danger of substance abuse, and violence in the workplace.
